But Bryan on the show Q&I the host Steven Fry pointed out the number of commandments is NOT TEN .
Fourteen is one number that popped up but Steven Fry said there are many many more .
I can not remember how many but I think it is the hundreds .
I do remember the cynical comment that KILLING was not the number one .

    • Yep Atheist thinking,
Our Jewish brothers detected 613 commandments of the Law in the Torah. And there are no less than three sets of (10) Commandments in two of the Books and as you say, one of them lists some 14. They dont actually all agree with each other.

To show just how arbitrarily the Church fathers and founders picked and selected just what to quote, even the Protestant ten are not exactly the same as the Catholic ten. Ten clearly represents a very nice round and symbolic figure to become iconic over the centuries.

Glad to know you are a fan of QI too.

      Cheers, Rian.

      • Yes it is a great show .
And one of it,s greatest attributes is those on it have no trouble being ridiculed .Those who don,t take themselves as important have no trouble taking a hit .
As to the fact there are so many versions of what man made religions claim to be commandments is clear irreparable evidence those words are ALL mans work .
