More girls kidnapped in Nigera

A LEADER of a militant Islamist group of has taken responsibility for the kidnapping of more than 200 teenage girls abducted from a Nigerian school two weeks ago.

The statement came as suspected Boko Haram gunmen kidnapped eight more girls, aged 12 to 15, from a village near one of their strongholds in north-east Nigeria.

An Islamic scholar acting as an intermediary between the Islamic group Boko Haram and the Nigerian government said the militant Islamist group has converted the Christians among the 200 girls and is selling them into marriage.

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, in a statement, said the girls should not have been in school, but wed. He continued:
“God instructed me to sell them, they are his properties and I will carry out his instructions.”

“I abducted your girls,” said the leader of Boko Haram, which means “Western education is sinful.”

“By Allah, I will sell them in the marketplace,” he said in the hour-long video that starts with fighters lofting automatic rifles and shooting in the air as they chant “Allahu akbar!” or “God is great.”

It was unclear if the video was made before or after reports emerged last week that some of the girls have been forced to marry their abductors — who paid a nominal bride price of $12 — and that others have been carried into neighboring Cameroon and Chad. Those reports could not be verified.

An intermediary who has said Boko Haram is ready to negotiate ransoms for the girls also said two of the girls have died of snakebite and about 20 are ill. He said Christians among the girls have been forced to convert to Islam. The man, an Islamic scholar, spoke on condition of anonymity because his position is sensitive.

Nigeria’s police have said more than 300 girls were abducted. Of that number, 276 remain in captivity and 53 escaped.

The mass abduction and the military’s failure to rescue the girls and young women has roused national outrage with protests in major cities. Protesters accused President Goodluck Jonathan of being insensitive to the girl’s plight

  1. Meanwhile here we have clergy preaching that Old Testament is bad, we are not under the law but under grace. And forget that the same Old Testament they are disparaging, made the following law:

    “Anyone who kidnaps another and either sells him or still has him when he is caught must be put to death. (Exodus 21:16)”

    It is interesting that the same Old Testament that we are supposed to ignore also made the comment that we should love God supremely and our neighbour as ourselves.

  2. Apparently they are calling on Americans to help in the search.

    I think it would be better if Muslims from nations who want to make a clear statement that this is not part of Islam should rather get involved. Send people over to find these girls and make a worldwide statement that this is not part of Islamic teaching, if it is not.

      ….and if these bastards ARE tracked down ~ then what? Do we ‘forgive those who trespass’ or wash our hands and pass them on to Caesar?

        In the meantime it is now 2014 and we Christians clearly don’t (and we would argue never did) condone slavery. So what the Christians did to get us to this stage is in the above link, maybe that is what is needed.

        ….it’s how I live with the dogs, a cat, two possums and (lately) a few rats.
        (except they don’t obey with fear. I’ve never thought it necessary or reasonable to expect that.

        But then I’m not god.

      • Actually, this example contrasts ancient Israel’s laws about slavery and what we can expect from slave condoning nations that have abandoned God.

        God in the Old Testament, took people with their hangups and mental attitudes and tried to regulate their evil customs.

        Jews were not permitted to deal in slave trade.

        Slavery was used as a means of paying back debt under Jewish law. Unlike this example where slavery is used as a political tool.

        Slaves were liberated after 7 years. Unlike this situation where one can be sold in slavery never to be liberated.

        Some slaves were willing to remain slaves under the Jewish system. Unlike this situation where slaves remain so because of being scared to do otherwise.

        Some people became slaves in order to survive… by putting the problem of being protected, housed and fed onto someone else. Nothing like this occurs in this example (girls dying of snakebite because the slave owner does not care).

        Last but not least, some of the rights inherent in Judaism was extended to slaves without them being converted to Judaism. Such as Sabbath day rest for man and beast. No such thing exists in slavery under Islam.

        Whilst the situation of slavery was not ideal, it was not as bad as it would have been had not God got involved to ameliorate the situation.

        …except to god, of course; the slave-master who owns not only our bodies but also our very souls, demands our obedience and fealty, and in return promises to fill our porridge-bowl and thrash us (for our own good) from time to time.

        Slavery is a broad church.

  3. Have you seen Nigeria lately? I’m surprised how anyone can survive at all.

    But apart from that … half of these people are tribal. We knew how to deal with them in the old days when they had spears shields and rocks, but since then we’ve invaded their country, ripped out all the minerals, gold and diamonds, installed puppet governments, sold them WMD’s and left them to it.

    It’s a great melting pot, but in the west we can’t tell a black jaguar from a white Muslim, and we really don’t give a damn anyway … we just want them all to go away, while we wonder why they get angry all the time.

    Stealing schoolgirls because they’re paranoid of western teachings… wonders never cease.

    They’ll probably sell them to the Taliban and have a party.

    I know it’s easy to speak in hindsight … but it’s probably why Queen Victoria, having defeated the Zulus … didn’t sell them cannons and Lee Henry rifles, or let them into England so they could set up their Kralls all over the British countryside, to practice their tribal ceremonies.

    But it’s 2014 now, and this is democracy so anyone can live anywhere. There were over 10,000 girls cut up in tribal religious ceremonies in the last few years just in Britain.

    Why not put up a Hyatt in the middle of the African desert? Add a casino or two….
    The poverty and crime among the natives shouldn’t disturb anyone…

    The west has a great way of conveniently being outraged. But the outrage is very selective.
