JESUS loves porn stars, according to the front covers on some Bibles currently circulating in New York.

No-one seems horrified by that message, issued by a Christian company –XXXChurch — ministering to the porn industry.

Jesus loves the little children? No-one really doubts that.
But Jesus loves Tony Abbott or Jesus loves George W. Bush and Kim Jong-un? And Osama Bin Laden and Joe Stalin? Now that really annoys some people.

Jesus did preach universal love.
That may go against what some thought about Jesus but it’s true. Jesus loves porn stars and terrorists as much as he loves priests, pastors and cuddly grandmas.
In his eyes, we are all the same – just people in need of rescuing in an often cruel world.
Like a popular gospel songs says: “Nothing you can do could make Him love you more. And nothing that you’ve done could make Him close the door.’’

We all have the choice of accepting or rejecting the love.
It’s too easy to fall into the trap of believing that God’s love is conditional on how we behave.
If we choose to reject God’s love, we choose our own destinies.
C.S.Lewis, in his book The Great Divorce, explored the notion that God/Christ never “locked out’’ anyone from Heaven, rather that some people stubbornly refused to see anything other than Hell, thus locking themselves out.
The story tells that even those who go to Hell have a chance of Heaven, if they can forgive, be forgiven, and embrace God.
But those in Hell seldom know that they are there and refuse to let go of what they know of the earthly world to embrace the heavenly realm.
“There are only two kinds of people in the end,’’ writes Lewis. “Those who say to God, `Thy will be done’, and those to whom God says, in the end, `Thy will be done’.

    True. But that love must be reciprocated. “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God…” “Thou shalt love your neighbour as yourself…”

    John 8:15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”

    Don’t stop with God loves the pornstars. There is a responsibility attached to that love. In this sense there is no such thing as unconditional love.

      • Agreed. However, He could see the potential in each fallen and sinful person. The original goodness, heart, mind what He could love, and still loves in us. But not the mislead life we live.

      • Umm… Jesus loves every single person, even the money changers, Pharisees, politicians, and lawyers. Well, maybe not Dabs. Hahaha. Kidding Dabs. Davinci on the other hand…

    • Jesus hates nothing. If you assume that he and the Father were one as he said, than he is god and as such he has no requirements. He is all sufficient unto him/herself. There is nothing god needs. Neither our obedience, nor worship. It is our of our need we do this. If we remembered who we really are , we won’t need it neither.

  4. Boy, that statement alone, “Jesus loves porn stars” would ruffle a few religious feathers I think. In fact Craig Gross, pastor of XXXChurch says,

    “I sometimes have to go to extraordinary lengths to build these bridges to the people that Jesus loves. What’s strange, though, is that despite my willingness to speak against the effects of porn, most people in the porn industry casually embrace who I am, and ignore why I do it. Among the religious it is the opposite. Many in the church despise who I am and ignore what I do.

    Take, for example, the porn trade show where we passed out thousands of Bibles. Those who claimed to be Christians harangued me alongside the porn stars. When I explained I was there to give out Bibles that read “Jesus Loves Porn Stars” on the cover, a guy who I affectionately called “Hate Preacher” informed me that nobody would take the Bibles. We passed out over three thousand on the first day alone.

    I am a Christian. And yet I think, for the sake of comfort and safety, Christians have chosen to huddle together in small groups, hoping “the world” doesn’t get in. I’ve watched how many have turned the “church” into exclusive little clubs, ignoring the Bible’s message of God’s all-inclusive love. These groups devise plans and develop strategies for reaching out to their “opponents” – they have even come up with “emergent” lingo that many on the same team don’t even understand.

    The simple fact is Jesus said, “Love your neighbour … love your enemy … love, because I love.” Jesus said, “Hey Zacchaeus, tonight I am coming to your house for dinner …” All those disagreements, those points we think we need to prove, those sins we think we need to name and shame – Jesus simply said, “I didn’t come to judge.”

    Differences don’t have to divide. The expectation today is that differences get in the way of friendships. It is the temptation of all religions – including the Christian institution called “church” – to believe that they are right and everyone else is wrong.

    The church expects people who do not subscribe to their tenets to find their way into the sanctuary. They expect them to come inside, but only once they figure out that they’re “lost.”

    But that’s not what Jesus was about. In Mark 2:17, Jesus said, “I have come for the sick. The healthy do not need a doctor.””
