And the winner is…..

THIS year’s Blake Prize for religious and spiritual art has been has been awarded posthumously to Indigenous artist Trevor Nickolls for his painting Metamorphosis.

The artist had described the work (above) as designed to incorporate both Aboriginal imagery and symbolism from other sources, such as the peace doves on each side of the Aboriginal man.

Nickolls, whose own ancestry combined Murray River, Ireland and Afghanistan, was known as a pioneer of urban Aboriginal art.

The painting was completed shortly before the artist’s death last year.

  1. Well, I don’t know about the meaning of it but I kinda like it.

I like some Aboriginal art. I went to a gallery a few years back and an artist was making clothes with the prints of their artwork and it was stunning.
